BLACKed Out
Although I live on foreign soil, my heart and mind is back home in the States. Why? Because our impending election will shape not just our future but how the rest of the world views us.
Whether you realize it or not, you—we are seen as warmonging, imperialists who push our beliefs on smaller nations for profit. They believe this because of how our country is governed. Given that evidence, they would be correct.
The conservative right has a lot at stake to make sure they maintain the current power structure. Enter John McCain. What's more is they, at the very least, need someone in power who buys into the govern by fear and warmonging ideology. An insurance policy, if you will. Enter Hillary Clinton.
What they don't need or want, is someone who will lead this nation by truth, honesty and with a disdain for everything the current power structure represents. Someone with an understanding of how they have manipulated our economy to line their own pockets. Enter in the campaign to destroy Barack Obama.
The fact of the matter is, Obama is their worst nightmare because he IS black. I'm not agreeing with Geraldine Ferraro. But when blacks are united against a cause we create a very powerful voting bloc. That means that we—blacks have power. We have the power to impact the election, any election. It's imperative the GOP, the current power structure, stops us. They do this at every cost.
How can they do that? By disenfranchising black voters. There are laws prohibiting convicted felons from voting. So they turn as many blacks as they can, even those committing misdemeanors, into convicted felons or worse, those who haven't ever broken a law.
Another tactic would be to have less voting machines in the precincts with more registered black voters, who tend to vote Democratic.
Yet, another would be to claim people's names aren't on the voter rolls for any number of reasons.
Even another is to list a law-abiding citizen as a felon.
Sounds impossible? Huh. It's happened.
In the movie American Blackout, we see how the GOP machine came after and destroyed the political career of Cynthia McKinney. She spoke out against government lies regarding Sept. 11, 2001. The GOP worked within the political system to legally marginalize unwitting voters. They backed a black woman to run against McKinney because it was Atlanta. A white candidate wouldn't have won in that congressional district.
On a larger scale, Clinton is getting the backing of the same GOP members. The GOP strategists convince Republicans to crossover and vote for her. So they can dictate who the Dem candidate will be. Again, this marginalizes the votes of those in the Dem party and, thus, keeping us from having the candidate we want. That's why she hasn't dropped out yet.
Don't forget this same power structure is in bed with corporate America. One of the biggest corporations in America is a media company. Now, consider the press' role in the Wright scandal, which had nothing to do with Obama himself.
It's a game people. They play to win. When will we?
Here's the whole movie. Watch it. You will see parallels between what they did to McKinney and what they are now using the media to do to Obama. In knowledge there is power. Now that we know we posses it, what will we—you do to claim it back?

AMERICAN BLACKOUT

LoisLane referred in her article to the various events that occurred either in Florida or in Ohio during the election which the courts ultimately declared in favour of George Bush Jn. And numerous African Americans were in fact denied of their constitutional right to vote, directly because of those events.
Below is an excerp from my opinion on a similar topic.
....................................
I am not really too surprised by the fact that so many African Americans have been denied of their right to vote in elections within the United States itself. Because I, and others in this world too, do tend to ignore the rhetoric promulgated for or by the United States, and instead focus on the historical records and observations which I have reason to believe are factually correct.
Now, the historical records and observations sadly show me that so much wrong have been done to African Americans in the past, either as a community or as individuals. And relatively recent decisions in the courts like those relating to the beatings of Rodney King and others, as examples, clearly demonstrate to me how the same mindset that allowed, tolerated, or perpetuated evils against the African Americans of old, is still very much alive and active in modern times in the minds of some people in White America.
For example, American Blackout revealed how the mainstream US media actively participated in the destruction of the political career of Cynthia McKinney. Why? Because as a black woman, she did not know her place. Because as a black woman, she had the audacity, or the unmitigated temerity to ask questions which she should not have even dared to contemplate, much less ask, after the september 11 incident. And, because as a black woman, her views upset those faceless few who like to think that they really control the United States.
And the mainstream US media is doing, or trying to do,the very same thing to the political career of Barack Obama at this moment in time, as it did to the career of Cynthia McKinney a few ears ago. But the media is even worse now because they are using the words and the conducts of others as a weapon against him, Barack Obama, rather than his own actual words or conduct.

Hey LuvDane,
It seems like voters in North Cacalaca aren't falling for it. They gave Obama a decisive victory last night, however, Clinton claimed a narrow victory in Indiana. Here's a look at the numbers from an AP story:
"A look at the night's numbers:
_Obama won at least 69 delegates and Clinton at least 63 in the two states combined, with 55 still to be divided between the two candidates.
_Obama's delegate total reached 1815.5 to 1,672 for Clinton in The Associated Press count, out of 2,025 needed to win the nomination.
_Obama won North Carolina 56-42, with returns from 99 percent of precincts.
_Clinton won Indiana 51-49, with returns from 99 percent of precincts."
It's dragging on with West Va, Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota coming up in that order by June 3.
Clinton begged from money during her victory speech in Indiana. I think it's because the states left standing have large white populations with the exception of PR, however, there is at least one military base there.
What is really frightening and is more to the point about the documentary, is that white Clinton Dems in NC indicated in exit polls that they will vote for McCain if she doesn't get the nod for the nom. That's been my greatest worry all along. I already knew McCain would be able to pull a few donkeys if Clinton were the Nominee. However, it sounds like racism will preclude him having to even campaign to moderate Dems. They may flee in droves.
Only time will tell, so we shall see.
Thanks for adding to the discussion!

Awwww Jon.
You are too kind. Thanks for taking the time out to read. I'm glad you found the piece and, hopefully, the film informative. Can you believe I have been gone a year already? I am missing the Apple to and all my friends including you. So it will be nice when we do finally link back up. When? I dunno.
Good seeing you!

Yo Blacked Out was very informational, I can't believe that happened twice(that we've caught). There is no real truth in America only the one they sell us. Keep us fat and asleep with propaganda. The average American doesn't know what's going on 5 minutes outside their own neighborhood. But funny enough all the new game systems and new sneakers news makes it into the smallest little hoods. And let's not even start about liquor and cigarettes and their campaigns on "the hood." But proper information on what's going on out there in world or in the presidential race is non-existent. It's a shame that AR-15, Air Force Ones and Laura Croft is more familiar to kids coming into a voting age than who John Kerry is...
