The Dunbar Four

Just when you think Al Sharpton is done with missteps he goes and makes a terrific gaffe of epic proportions.

The latest off-tempo move by Rev. Press-n-Curl involves a yet another rape case. This time, however, instead of being a teenage girl it involved a single mother, her young son and four teenaged boys. The setting is Dunbar Village in West Palm Beach, Florida.

As I come from the Roosevelt Houses in Brooklyn, let me explain how government housing gets named. To make them sound less like the hell on Earth they are, somewhere along the line, city officials decided to give them tags like, gardens, houses, or, village. These places do not resemble anything like the connotation that their names imply. Here's another helpful hint: West Palm Beach is the black bastard brother to Boca Raton, a rich, suburban white enclave just a stone's throw away.

Now that I have set the scene, let me fill you in on the details. This woman was gang-raped and sodomized in her own home, then forced by gunpoint to have sex with her own son. Her own, young son. Then, as if that wasn't enough, these monsters, poured nail polish remover, ammonia among other flammable liquids with the intent on setting their vicitms afire in the bathtub. But these geniuses couldn't find anything to set the blaze but did capture the episode on a cell phone video camera. I don't know about you, but this give me such high hopes for the future. Right.

Although they survived—I'm not sure I would want to—her son is now blind. Reportedly, neighbors heard her cries but no one moved to action or even pick up their fucking phones to call the police. The culprits were apprehended and are being held without bail. Thank the Almighty, for that one. So, why has Rev. Press-n-Curl opened his fat trap on this? Is it to come to the aid of the single mother and her son? Oh no, that would be too much like right.

CALL REV. PRESS-N-CURL, HIS INFO IS AT THE END OF THIS SHORT CLIP

In his desperate search for the next Jena Six, he descended on Dunbar Village announcing these black boys are being unfairly treated because in Boca Raton, where a similar crime was allegedly committed by non-black youths, those boys are out on bail.

OH MY FUCK! Rev. Press-n-Curl has finally lost his damn mind! Now, I'm not so simple to miss the point about a precedent. Once you let one injustice go without being challenged, it paves the way for others to escape correction. However, did it ever occur to Rev. P-n-C or the NAACP, that's helping him, the injustice here is the fact that the Boca Raton boys should never have gotten offered bail?

CONTACT THE NAACP, WHO SAYS BLACK-ON-BLACK CRIME ISN'T THEIR AGENDA. INFO IS AT END OF CLIP

So we are left with boys who allegedly raped an incapacitated person free to do the same again and Rev. P-n-C and the esteemed NAACP wants the black boys to be able to do the same. *SMH*

Here's what I think: Take all of these bastard raping mofos, slice their penises off and make them eat them in a soup. Ok, ok, that's not justice either. But neither is, setting them free because the boys next door are—if only for the time being. Here's another idea: How about picking up the banner and calling for the bail in the Boca Raton case to be revoked? Stop focusing on the color of the defendants and seek resolution to the real issue. Tragically, Rev. P-n-C and the NAACP have sunk to a new low. Where's the justice for the mother and her blinded son? The entire scenario reminds me of parts in one of my favorite books: Tom Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities.

In our grand quest for equality, we have forgotten about the real victims of crime and in my book, those are the ones we should be screaming from the mountaintop to help. Call Rev. Press-n-Curl (um, don't call him that when you ring him) and the NAACP to tell them what you think of this dastardly plan to set those boys free.

      Hi DJ,

We have to be able to see through the muck and realize that in cases like this one being black doesn't get you an automatic pass for injustice activism. The right thing for Sharpton and the NAACP to do, would have been to support the victims in both cases denouncing the $1 million bail in Boca Raton.

Somehow, the educated in this matter missed that point. *smh* It's a sad day, as I am sure that mother and her son are getting support but not nearly what they should be getting from the community as a whole. It doesn't help that she was poor. And before the naysayers can open their mouths--she was very much duly employed.

Oh, yeah I love me some soup. All you need is the right mix of ingredients and you can make anyone eat their words/deeds. LOL.

      Thanks for stopping by, Deej.

I don't believe it is just an Al Sharpton thing I believe it's through out all the government agencies.

It's a disgrace that victims are ignored, it's a disgrace that more is not done to prevent crimes from happening but then all the government agencies/politicians couldn't care less. They are all nothing other than mouth pieces to service their own self-centered political needs.

As a disabled victim in TN I found that the agencies always had some excuse, such as it isn't in a nursing home so the law doesn't pertain to you which is not true. Law doesn't limit it to just nursing homes.

Victims of crimes around the world are left out, ignored, left 4 dead and our government officials, all of them are blinded by the politics instead of protecting and serving.

Forgot the Supreme Court Ruled that those involved with law don't have to protect and serve us any more.

New governor of N.Y. was just interviewed where he to had indulged in paying for some woman like Spitzer but not the large among like Eliot. The Patterson also claimed he use to smoke crack earlier.
It's about time we where told the truth upfront about our elected officials before we cast our votes for these less than honorable people put into office.

Problem is, has been and will always be what prohibits us from the truth about people. Media is the culprit, we need honesty in reporting every detail of every news story/politician out there.

Why are we always informed after the fact? Why are victims not protected, if ever, after the fact?

But I'm sure you would agree that Rev. Press-n-Curl is the model for which Rev. Bacon was based in the aforementioned Bonfire of the Vanities. One quick look at how they cast the character in the movie based on the novel affirms that. LOL.

To answer your question Nash, the media plays its part by not being savvy enough to dig past the surface issues when reporting on candidates. It is not the fault of any one reporter, however, the fault of editors who send reporters out with a specific story angle or a demand, not allowing for them to absorb the information and arrive at their own conclusions about where the story needs to go. Also, in this age of media conglomerates, on balance media companies are too close to political leanings to really expose the sins of their own candidates, ie, Fox News' obvious vendetta against Obama and its use of Rev. Wright as an attempt to derail his promising campaign. Basically, the reporters are told what to do and the bosses are in bed with the candidates to hoodwink the public--that's why it takes scandal to out devious politicans. Apparently, that doesn't always work as Kwame Kilpatrick's refusal to step down as Detroit's mayor even after being indicted yesterday. *SMH and LMAO* By the way, exactly how many male politicans will fall this way. Once you are in office, stop letting your absolute power control you because the only thing it WILL do is corrupt you and then it's only a matter of time before the end of your career proves that power is anything but absolute.

Anyhoo, to your second question, I don't have a complete answer for that one. But I will tell you, the woman and her son in this scenario were not protected because they were poor, living in government housing. Put another was: nobody cared, not even her neighbors. And if you think that's bad, check this story out. This poor woman was developmentally challenged, pregnant and a mother of one who was tortured to death by the people who forced her to live with them for her SSI checks. There is some speculation as to how she even got pregnant with the second child, as nobody knows who the father is. So, indeed, the poor and hopeless are the ones we should be protecting but are not.

On that sad note, thanks for stopping by, Nash.

      Thanks, AW!

At times, Rev. Press-n-Curl shows some signs of sanity, however, his support of these boys' moral turpitude isn't one of those times and casts his role within the black community in a long, dark shadow. You know me, I'll say as much as I can get away with, if not more. LOL. Thanks for your support.

    Dear DI readers,
Right is right and wrong is wrong no matter the color of the criminals or the reason behind the horrific deed. Unfortunately, our "civilized" world has progressed to a mind set the color of the criminal and his wallet determine the extent of the crime and punishment. This society is so far from Jesus' teachings of love your neighbor as yourself - the rule all quality life depends on - that we are confused even when we are confronted with BOTH the black and white evils in Florida. I agree with the readers who said we have forgotten the real victims, the families who survived such evil crimes. We are still enslaved but from the worst kind - color blindness and apathy. Why did not one somebody call for help? I am sure in a project complex that big, someone was home who could hear and knew how to use a phone to dial 911. But then, would any police have responded? That's another issue for another day. We need lots of prayer and changed hearts ASAP.
Thank you Lois Lane for keeping us posted on many homework assignments for the heart.
    Peace and blessings.

      Hey Carolyn!

Sure you are right. Press-n-Curl started out behind the pulpit. Where is all his Biblical knowledge now? Of course, the Christian teachings of Jesus say we must be forgiving and turn the other cheek but not without penance for one's sins. This action by these boys was so full of hate and malice that they laughed as they committed these acts. One even came back to rape her one last time before taking the Sony Playstation 2 and leaving his contact information. *smh* And yes, how could those folks who were home (the incident happened after 9 pm and lasted for three hours) NOT call the police? Were they afraid for themselves? Surely they would want someone to help them if they were in a similar situation.

We need a bit of color blindness when throwing the book at these kids/monsters. But how did they become what they are? I don't know and, at this point, I don't care. The victims could have been anyone. This could have been done by anyone, as the two cases show. The point--your point--is that something is wrong in our country when teenagers behave so egregiously and stepping in to excuse their behavior decrying unequal treatment under the law to let them OUT of prison is pure insanity.

It's a lesson for us all.

Thanks so much for stopping by, so glad you did.
