Got Crabs?
The Blog was quiet all week as I worked on my final, final, final, final, final, seriously final edits to CHILD SUPPORT, my debut novel. Now, I am done and will begin writing my next novel, working title, NEWSROOM. In the moments between these two projects, I wanted to write about something on the much lighter side of life.
I don't know how you feel about astrology but I believe there is something to be said about how our personalities are affected by the stars at the moment we are born. This doesn't mean to say daily horoscopes shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt but only that zodiac characteristics can yield insight to a person's psyche and whether two particular people have a chance of getting on, or, NOT.
A few weeks ago, a too-kind colleague said I write well about anything. Such a glorious compliment that today I'm putting it to the test. Recently, I thought about my relationship potential wondering what would be a REALLY good match for me. The answer was all too different from what I thought being that over the years, I dated a record number of Sagittarians all born within the same eight days, December 12 through December 20. Oh, how I was addicted.
We mortals love what's not good for us and such was the case with my Sag addiction. As a Virgo woman, I am surprisingly pulled to the free-spirited, non-committal, adventure-seeking Archer, however, this is my polar opposite and a most destructive coupling for moi. Want an example? Well, of course you do. Take the late John F. Kennedy Jr. and his late wifey, Carolyn Bessette. He was that hunky, male archer and she the image of a pristine, Virgo woman. Their public feuds were legendary before their love literally crashed and burned in the ocean off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. Lesson learned.

Not every coupling can be a successful Sag and Virgo pairing a la Jay-Z and Beyonce. So Sags are wrong for me and according to a half-dozen astrology Web sites, I should be getting crabs. Not the itchy kind you need an ointment for or must burn your linens to be rid of, mind you, but the Cancer crab. Mmmm lekker, how I love crab legs, crab cakes and crabs full-o-stuff! I will take my crab with linguine, fettuccine, hell, any way I can get it.
This does surprise me, as I dated NO Cancers at all. None, nada, nil, zippo, zilch, not-a-one. Sure, I crushed on the Cancerous Derek Jeter, flirted with a few others and even 'loved' one in a strangely distant sort of way but nothing concrete. The Cancer man possesses loads of qualities I fancy: he's nurturing, protective, intelligent, loyal, loving, has a penchant for the good life and desires pretty things. Sounds great, right? Bookmark that.
As a Virgo, it might be hard for others to see where we'd match up. I'm practical, verbal, critical, intelligent, loyal, witty, my discriminating tastes are often mistaken for perfectionism, I'm one who loves to serve and 'ferociously' self-contained. This last bit gives us the perception of being 'cold fish' until someone comes along igniting our fire. Well, like Beyonce, I don't suffer from the cold-fish syndrome.

Alas, in every potential coupling there are obstacles. The temperamental crab wearing its heart on its sleeve is quite moody, evasive and indirect. To make matters worse, these guys tend to retreat into their shells when the mood strikes or when the Virgo's critical tendencies, albeit unintentionally, bruises their sensitivities. When this mood of theirs hits they retreat without explanation or apology, which for the verbal, worrier Virgo woman can be frightening and equally frustrating. However, it is advised not to take this personally. Right, fat chance. For Virgos, this brooding behavior feels like rejection causing their serpentine tongue to emerge, slicing and dicing said crab into meaty chunks greedily devouring it in a cold dish. Read this tidbit from same Web site:
"If you're a very verbal type (of Virgo) who needs everything spelled out in clear, logical sentences, either develop your intuition or choose another sign."
And this is my best hope for a happy match. Terrific. I need to start reading minds or return to Sags. That ain't much of a choice. There are other couplings for the Virgo woman that should prove agreeable to me: Take Capricorns. Think Bogie and Bacall but this isn't for me as last boyfriend was a cracked egg to the nth degree and very much a Capri.

And Libras. Um, been there and done that and it's a no go but think Will and Jada, anyway. The Libra's desire for balance may work in theory but doesn't in practice as they're always inexplicably tipping the scales in their favor.

If there is a crab in my future, maybe we'll take after two Beatle lifelong Cancer-Virgo pairings: Ringo Starr and his Barbara Bach and Paul McCartney and his first wife, Linda, whose death from (hmph) cancer was the only thing to end that marriage.

We could also wind up like another famous C-V couple, but hopefully, without the scandal: Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos. Who knew? It does explain why she owned so many shoes.

You the earth sign, with an earth ascendant would never make it with a fire (Sag) sign. Dirt puts fire out. The same as mixing water & fire.
Earth and water go very well, but as everything else it take patience especially with the emotional water sign people. You have to let the water signs have their moods.
Virgo critical? Appears that most are but I, believe they usually know what it is they want instead of being critical. It's strange to society that you meet people who know what they want and for some it scares them.
Virgo's natural opposition is Pieces which will always be something the Virgo needs to give thought to. What goes on with Virgos will also go on with Pieces at the same time. Same with Cancer and Capricorn people. Libra and Aries.
This is a great year for the crab (Cancer & Capricorn) because of the Jupiter aspect. If anyone is holding back, set the fears aside and go for it but not until May 3 when the planet Saturn goes direct. Things just come together better when it's the right timing. Great year to win $$$, get a better paying job, meet that special person.
*Please note that in playing with this for many centuries I stay away from 8 days. That's anything that adds up to an 8 also such as 17 and 26. Don't do things on any 8 days, start a relationship, buy a car, a home or start a job.
Remember July 17? Flight 800?
People also born on 8 days goes through more changes in their lives than I change undies.

Baaaaah! Dirt puts out fire! Too funny. That's how those mofos are too; think everyone is attempting to stifle. The crazy thing is I have really good friendships with most, not all, of my old fave Sags. They are really cool peeps but that whole non-committal, free-spirited thing weighs me down as much as it lifts me up, if you know what I mean. Ok, I will say it, they are inherently cheaters. As they are always looking towards the future and its possibilities, it's really difficult for them to accept what's in front of them without wondering and still sticking their toe in the water. One of them told me (years after we were done),
"A, you know all men cheat."
"No, not all men."
"Yes, ALL men."
I think he meant all Sag men. LOL!!!!
I would have to say, I believe I can be a tad critical (I separate this from my direct approach to knowing exactly what I want when it appears), however, it's more observational, pointing out what I see that's not right and less of an attack on some poor soul. So, Cancers and Capris are natural opposites but both are supposedly compatible with me? That's even more confusing. And forget about Aries, my splitter-prick father was one of those, so I stay away, although I did sample a hottie one once and emotionally regretted doing so.
Ok, about that eight thing, um, didn't even realize it was eight. Always thought it was over the course of seven days but when I edited this piece I counted and nope, it's eight. Wouldn't July 17 be 7+1+7=15 not 8? But anyway, remember we are not talking about a number o folks just a span of time where coincidentally some of my favorite X-whatevers (LMAO) were born. Doesn't matter anyway, swore off Sags for good, well kinda. However, another reader/friend, did my numbers recently and I was told to embrace the number 6. She said, "I bet you see 6 everywhere?" Um, no. What's that about, do you know?
Thanks for the great comment! Really good/fun info.

Here's another one to watch this year. Hillary a Scorpio, Scorpio rules the 8th house and her birthday is 10/26.
2+6=8

So it's not 10+2+6? Again you've dropped the month, please explain. I'm totally confused as to why.
"And my opponent, rules the 8th house and her birthday adds up to another eight. We shouldn't do anything in eights, as eights have more changes in their lives, campaigns, policies and decisions than I change my tighty whities!"
Now that's one to add to the stumping! LMAO...

Hi, your crabs caught my attention. When working with people I like to compare their signs and see where they might get along or have little bumps in their relationship road. Take the whole picture but notice when we fall for another person all of the astrology, psycology and zoology goes out the window. It is all about how great we feel. Viva the differences.
I enjoyed your article as always!! Linda

Hiya Linda,
I know the Zodiac isn't the end all, be all of relationship predictors, as Jay-Z and Beyonce prove. There are other factors: birth order, numerology (which strictly has to do with your given name) and other externally grounded factors effecting a couple's union. And don't I know about going with that great feeling as I kept dating those Sag men knowing they were not good for me. But sometimes, we have got to reign those feelings in and start thinking with a level head. But who knows, armed with a little more information maybe I will feel a fire-like passion for this water sign one day.
Thanks for your insight and your time!

Awwww, thanks Ron.
I hope you and my Taurean mother are not duking it out as we speak. There's one for the less likely but doing it anyway pack. More proof that the Zodiac should be taken with a grain of salt because love, in fact, conquers all. Hmph, maybe I will try another Sag. To be continued...
Thanks for reading, mayne.

With all that being said, where's the love for the Pisces? Surely throughout time we've laid some ground work for great couples. They have been known to be some of the greatest lovers after all, lol. Known for their great passion for anything they get into, be it art or music or even people

Hey mayne!
Ok. Pisces is the zodiac opposite of Virgo but that does not mean love can't thrive there. Take Richard (Pisces) and Pat (Virgo) Nixon. Forget his presidency that went down in flames, his love match lasted a lifetime despite their characteristic odds. Here's some insight from an article I found.
"There are many Pisces-Virgo couples, testament to the fact that opposites attract. They are directly opposite each other on the Zodiacal wheel, but both are mutable, able to 'go with the flow.' Pisces likes to wax poetic, or dreamily let their imagination take the lead. Virgo has two feet firmly in this world, but is constantly refining their body, routine, skills, etc. Virgo likes to be precise and can be detached. Pisces self-expression is looser and filtered through sensitive emotions. When there is understanding, they stand to benefit from the other's balancing perspective.
In relationship, Virgo helps Pisces see things more realistically. Often Pisces vision is clouded by emotion -- Virgo's analyzing clarity can lift them out of the fog. Virgo can also help Pisces lay out plans step-by-step. Pisces nature is more fluid, and has a soothing effect on the Virgoan nerves. When Virgo is stuck in the mundane, the Piscean flights of fancy color their world. Pisces has a knowing that comes from being clued into the collective all. Sharing this with Virgo can help lighten their load, and bring these earthdwellers closer to the mystery. With a lot of love and understanding, this match is a convergence of heaven and earth."
So there is hope outside of the zodiac's so-called perfect match. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Hmmm, Pisces. I do like fish.
Btw, you know in 72 hours? That's an expediency only a Virgo could appreciate, or, even understand.
Again, thanks for stopping by.
