Because She Lived

Today, I'm taking a departure from the ordinary all around. Being in a foreign country where they speak an unknown language, it's easy to get lost in time and space.

But I happened to look at a calendar and realized that today is June 12.

More than 80 years ago a woman was born on this day. Because she lived, life was given to almost 50 others. A woman whose strength was so strong she taught those around her to be strong too. A woman who sacrificed her own happiness to make due for others. A woman who cooked so well that her food was legendary.

Her name was Catherine C. Morton Smith.

She had a heart so big, it's a shame more people didn't know her. She hasn't been gone a year yet but for those of us who still ache, we owe it to her to remember who she was, how she lived and that she would want us not to hurt.

Happy Birthday Grandma.
